RFK Jr. is going to war against SSRIs. Doctors and patients are caught in the middle.

The Washington Post published an article on SSRI medication withdrawal receiving more political attention:

“For years, the issue lingered at the margins — on patient forums and in a handful of studies. It gained broader attention in early May, when Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced an effort to study and support the “deprescribing” of psychiatric drugs.”

This is the medical area that I have devoted my attention since 2002, and it’s ironic that this political party is agreeing with my perspective: that withdrawal from psychiatric medications, in this case SSRIs, has been inappropriately minimized and ignored. I believe that doing so supports the self-serving needs of a pharmaceutical industry whose bottom-line concern is financial profit from vulnerable patients and unquestioning psychiatrists.
