Three Things That Don't Freak Me Out Anymore

Thanks to a recent bird photography class, I decided to visit some bird-friendly places in Utah this weekend. These photos in my article are from my trip to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Willard Bay in northern Utah.

The yellow bird is called a yellow-headed blackbird and the white one is a pelican. The challenge of bird photography is simply to capture them with my camera before they fly off in disgust at how long they had to pose for me.

Last week, I mentioned that this is my 20th anniversary of being a holistic psychiatrist. I asked Jack, who has graciously helped me edit my website and articles for so many years that I've lost count, "Can you imagine what it's like to keep doing something for 20 years?"

"No," he said after a pause, "The only thing that I've done for more than 20 years is breathing."

There are so many things that I don't do anymore or don't get freaked out about because of my experiences over the past two decades. I've decided to write a few articles on my insights.

Oh, one last thing. Please come to, or watch virtually, my presentation at the Energy Healing Conference on April 2nd in Logan, Utah! I would love to have your support! There are some free tickets below.

Thanks! Enjoy the spring!

Three Things That Don't Freak Me Out Anymore
Reflections After 20 Years as a Holistic Psychiatrist

There's a world of difference between how I practiced in 2002 as a new holistic psychiatrist and how I practice today in 2022, and that's a very, very good thing.

Improvement is a very slow process, even in a private practice setting where no one interferes with my need to be integrative and innovative. It's hardly perceptible from week to week. Seldom do I experience major breakthroughs with how I perceive life and healing.

However, when I look back after 20 years, I can't help but feel like a long-absent aunt who comes to visit and exclaims with wide-eyed astonishment, "Oh! How much you've grown!"

Because of my experiences, here are three things that no longer freak me out—at all—anymore:

Situation # 1: a patient takes supplements and does energy work and shows remarkable improvement for several weeks, then suddenly becomes concerned because s/he is experiencing a recurrence of uncomfortable symptoms that feels just like a relapse.

Most of the time (99% of the time), it's not a relapse. It's the medications creating a physiological imbalance once the patient has gained greater health and function. The proper response is not to increase the medications, but to decrease them. After the patient decreases the medications, s/he will feel better.

Situation # 2: The initial baseline energy testing results for the patient's "Complete Analysis" gives a dismal 1/200 for all nutritional categories where 100/200 is the optimal nutritional status for being able to use nutritional support to help with tapering medications.

I've had values during the initial energy testing for new patients come back as low as 0.05/200. Although it is admittedly a low value, I know that with nutritional and energy medicine support people can improve and get to a place where they can taper safely.

The main question is whether the patient has the right attitude to do the work involved. Personal freedom, however, is a powerful motivator, and I've seen many patients overcome many obstacles and heal successfully.

Situation # 3: A patient wants to come off an antipsychotic medication like Olanzapine.

For decades, I struggled with certain medication withdrawals involving antipsychotics and benzodiazepines. They were considered by everyone I knew, including me, as mysteriously difficult.

However, now I know that if I use energy medicine to inform the body to prepare itself for a planned withdrawal and provide sufficient time and functional support to make proper adaptations in advance, then the withdrawal will go much more smoothly. So, Olanzapine withdrawal? No problem!

Like those pimple-periods of adolescence, my development during the past 20 years has not always been pretty or pleasant, and I'm glad that I've grown past it. I hope that the future will be problem-free from now on! 😅

Have a great week, and please share my Holistic Updates, podcasts, and YouTube videos and share the hope for holistic healing. Thanks!
