Advice for Families of Adult Children with Recurrent Mental Illness
Unconditional Love Over a Lifetime
Today's Holistic Article shares my podcast conversation with an accomplished, strong, and loving woman. As a mother, she has single-handedly nurtured and supported her adult son with recurrent mental illness for over twenty years.
Her story is not about miraculous healing but about unconditional love, perseverance, and wisdom in the face of inadequate psychiatric interventions for her son's mental health challenges.
I am in awe of her wise, practical advice for parents who share her struggles. Though her son is unable to acknowledge her as his mother, she continues to be a reliable source of unconditional love and support.
Mary (pseudonym) shares life-saving, growth-promoting advice that provides the missing social component of mental health support, especially for families searching for guidance. Come and learn from a living example of wisdom, fortitude, devotion, and compassion.
Have a great week!
I was talking with Mary (pseudonym) over the phone one evening when our conversation veered off to all the things she has learned to help her son with recurrent mental illness grow and thrive.
I started to think, "Wow, wouldn't it be wonderful if other parents could learn vicariously from Mary's 20+ years of hard-won experience?"
So, I asked her to talk about these issues on my podcast. There was a moment of silence and then in disbelief, she asked, "You want me to be on your podcast?"
I laughed. "Well, yeah! I think this information would be great to share!" I said.
I thought of those who emailed me wanting to promote themselves on my podcast. They didn't inspire me the way Mary inspired me. More than anything, I want people to have hope and to be inspired.
And that's how this podcast came to be created. I hope you'll not only find the information helpful, but feel that warm catch in your throat when you hear the way Mary has loved her son through the hardest of times without any need for acknowledgment.
I admire Mary and am happy that her voice can be shared with you through The Holistic Psychiatrist Podcast.
May we all strive to give and live in unconditional love.
